Unilateral Posterior Mandibular Edentulism Treated with a HUG® Subperiosteal Implant

This 63-year-old patient presented with unilateral posterior mandibular edentulism.
She was treated using a custom-made HUG® subperiosteal implant.
The particularity of this case lies in the anterior arm of the implant, which extends below the mental foramen, allowing optimal anatomical anchorage while preserving critical structures.
A full-PMMA provisional bridge was used during implant positioning to validate the prosthetic and implant positioning. It was then removed before submerging the implant.
The implant was covered with a porcine-derived biomaterial and a dermal membrane (NovoMatrix®) to increase soft tissue thickness and promote long-term tissue stability.
The second-stage surgery, consisting of implant exposure, will be performed 4 months postoperatively.
This patient was treated by Dr Antoine Diss and Dr Laurine Birault at Arenas Dentistes, Nice, France.
