Complete mandibular rehabilitation using a HUG subperiosteal implant

This 74-year-old patient presented with severe mandibular atrophy.
Only three residual teeth remained and were extracted prior to surgery.
Clinical and radiological examinations revealed extremely limited residual bone, with the inferior alveolar canal emerging at the crest level and a highly irregular symphyseal region.

Given this situation of extreme atrophy, a treatment approach using a HUG subperiosteal implant was selected. The implant was fabricated in three parts and subsequently connected by a definitive bridge with a titanium framework, which was placed on the day of surgery.

This innovative technique allowed the patient to transition from a condition of severe mandibular atrophy to an immediate functional and esthetic rehabilitation, with the definitive bridge placed under load at the end of the surgical procedure.

This patient was treated by Dr Antoine Diss and Dr Laurine Birault at Arenas Dentistes, Nice, France.
